Chia Seed & Spinach Smoothie

This delicious smoothie is loaded with Chia seeds, spinach, fruit and coconut water, making a highly nutritious and filling snack. Chia seeds are a wonderful super food! They contain an abundance of fiber, calcium, manganese and phosphorus, and are a great source of healthy omega-3 fats.


Chia seeds also make a great source of protein for vegetarians and don't have any cholesterol. One 28-gram serving of these super seeds has 4.4 grams of protein, nearly 10 per cent of the daily value.



Ingredients:
1 cup chopped watermelon
1 Tbsp Chia seeds
1 large handful spinach
1 frozen banana
2 Tbsp LSA
1 handful blueberries
1 orange
2 cups coconut water
1 tsp honey

Method:
Take half a cup of the coconut water and add the Chia seeds. Leave to soak for 10 minutes to allow the Chia seeds to swell before adding to the smoothie. Place all of the remaining ingredients into a blender along with the soaked Chia seeds and blend until smooth. Serve over ice.

  1. Hi there, LSA is a product you can buy here in New Zealand which is a combination of ground linseeds (flax seeds), sunflower seeds and almonds. It goes wonderfully with smoothies, breakfast cereals and baking! If you can't find LSA in your country, you could easily make it by mixing equal quantities of these three ingredients.
